Delta Dental of Tennessee, which announced seven grants to local nonprofits totaling $300,000 last month, recently presented a $35,000 donation to Erlanger Health System Foundation in Chattanooga, Tenn., to support the dental clinic supplies and equipment at Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

Heart disease has been the leading cause of death in the U.S. since 1921, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which estimated that nearly 1.24 million people – or about 3,400 each day – suffered a new or recurrent heart attack in 2010. So this February, in recognition of American Heart Month, Delta Dental of Tennessee wants to emphasize the connection between oral health and heart health.
