A History of Success

Delta Dental of Tennessee, with its affiliates in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, is part of a family of companies that combined is one of the largest dental plan administrators in the nation. In 2006, the enterprise paid out more than $1.7 billion for dental care for more than 6.2 million enrollees. Offices are located in Okemos, Farmington Hills, and Grand Rapids, Michigan; Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Nashville, Knoxville, and Memphis, Tennessee.

The Tennessee Dental Services Corporation was first formed in 1965 as the result of enabling legislation passed by the Tennessee General Assembly. In 1970, the corporation’s name was changed to its current moniker, Delta Dental of Tennessee. With initial support from the Tennessee Dental Association, Delta Dental has, over the years, had joint operating agreements with leading health care carriers.

Today, however, Delta Dental has grown to become the largest independent dental insurance provider in the state with more than 1,300 employer groups. It also has the state’s largest network of practicing, licensed dentists with more than 85% participating. Delta Dental is consistently rated among the largest, best, and most efficiently run companies in Tennessee.

Delta Dental of Tennessee is a member of Delta Dental Plans Association, America’s largest, most experienced dental benefits system.
